The island has many walking trails, such as the West Island Way or you can make up your own route, and whilst out walking you may spot roe deer, pheasant, or a fox. A short drive or a longer walk will take you to Scalpsie Bay, which is a lovely, secluded bay on the west coast of the island. The bay is known for its resident herd of grey seals, which can often be seen sunning themselves on rocks just offshore, at the northwestern end of the bay. There are also bicycles and E-bikes for hire from the main town, Rothesay, and for those who find themselves in the right spot at the right time, they may be rewarded with the sight of some otters, or red squirrel. 

Located in the Straad on the west coast of the island is Seaview Cottage, which is just a few minutes walk to the beach at St. Ninian's Bay.
