Our Cottages in Bute

Just one hours drive from Glasgow and a short 35 minutes ferry crossing takes you to the beautiful Isle of Bute. Although one of the easiest islands to get to in Argyll, the Isle of Bute is often overlooked, most visitors to Scotland are yet to discover it, so you won’t find crowds of tourists here, just wildlife, tranquillity and stunning scenery at every turn. The island has unspoilt countryside, miles of coastline to explore and a fascinating history dating back to 2000 BC, a castle and the magnificent Mount Stuart House.

With several beaches around it's coastline, sandy, shingle and some with lots of interesting rockpools to explore, the island is sure to have something for everyone. Scalpsie Bay in particular is worth a visit as not only is it one of the islands most beautiful beaches, it is also home to a large colony of grey seals. Visitors may also spot roe deer, pheasant, buzzards, hares and perhaps even red squirrels or otter.

There are a number of outdoor activities available too, bike or e-bike hire, wild swimming, pony trekking, kayak and paddle board hire. Walk the West Island Way. It is the ideal location for dog friendly holidays too, with pleanty of space for them to run around and enjoy themselves.

The town of Rothesay has 3 supermarkets and a variety of shops, a museum, a good old fashioned putting green and it's own castle right in the centre, and for those rainy days there's always the public swimming pool. A trrip to Bute would not be complete without a visit to the magnificent Mount Stuart House, it has large grounds to explore and the house itself is one of Scotland's most beautiful stately homes.

Discover Iron Age forts, WWII bunkers, see the loch where they tested Donald Campbell's restored Bluebird K7, walk with alpaccas, spot seals, fish, cycle, swim, sail, kayak, sit and have an ice cream cone on the prom...the list goes on.

If this has piqued your interest and you would like to find out how to experience this beautiful place for yourself, then why not take a look at Seaview Cottage Straad, a five star rated holiday cottage located just a few minutes walk from St. Ninian's Bay, Straad, on the west coast of the island. There are few truly quiet spaces left these days, however Seaview Cottage Straad is one of those places - this makes it the ideal location to truly get away from it all.
